About Me

8 years in Physical Therapy,

7 years with holistic methods

So my desire to become a physical therapist stems for a really personal experience. I think this is the case for a lot of people in the healthcare field.

When I was a senior in high school, I got back from school one afternoon to find both my parents home, which was unusual. After walking into my dad's office and seeing my parents faces, I knew something was wrong. Before I really realized what I said I had blurted out, "Who died"?

Shortly after that, I found out why their faces were painted with that terrible look. My mom had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

To make a longer story short, my mom had a meningioma, which is basically the best type of brain tumor you can have (is there such a thing really?). She underwent surgery, they removed the whole tumor (after 12 hours under anesthesia), and she moved on to the recovery phase. Here's where my love for physical therapy stemmed.

Unfortunately, my mom didn't have a typical recovery from her surgery. After her surgery, she had a significant amount of swelling that required steroids and ultimately, physical therapy to work on her balance.

There is a running joke in my family that I decided to pursue physical therapy because:

"If it can take the lump that Mom was after surgery and make her a normal person again, it's something I'm interested in." 🤣

My Passion for Integrating East and West

So let me preface this by saying that I wasn't raised knowing about really any alternative treatment methods, no crunchy hippie upbringing here.

It wasn't until I was graduated from physical therapy school and was well into my adult life that I alternative treatments really came onto my radar at all. Which is surprising because, in some ways, physical therapy itself is an alternative treatment form.

My introduction to this world of alternative methods was through using essential oils. I had been hearing about oils for quite some time before I decided to give them a try and since that time, I haven't really looked back. For me, essential oils were the gateway into looking at my health in a more whole body and holistic way, which I'm forever grateful for.

In my opinion, medication should be a very small piece of managing any health condition or in supporting overall wellness. I think in a lot of ways we have it backwards as a society.

We generally want quick fixes, which medication frequently provides. Now, this is all with a caveat, I'm not against medication in all circumstances. We need meds of all different types, including pain medications, but I think there is a lot that can be done with food and lifestyle changes to avoid those medications in the first place!

I'll be sharing some of my favorite alternative ways to support your health, and your joints specifically, so that you too can begin to shift the way you think about your health.

My Thriving with Osteoarthritis Course

It's no secret that healthcare professionals have been leaving the healthcare field in droves the last two years. And to be honest, I was no exception.

I left my full-time physical therapy job in October 2020 due to my increasing anxiety related to my job. The climate of healthcare at that time had made an already stressful job that much more so, and for my mental health, I had to step away for a period of time.

This allowed me to change my focus and re-think how I wanted to best serve people and direct my focus. Which lead me to my Thriving with Osteoarthritis course!

After working with a teletherapy company that focuses solely on people who have osteoarthritis (OA), I began to realize through research, that the typical way that OA gets treated is not necessarily the best way.

The last resort for OA (joint replacement) is frequently listed as one of the primary treatments, which is totally backward! So I made it my mission to put together information for people who have been diagnosed with OA so that they can feel empowered and informed on ALL the ways available to manage their condition.

I'm working hard behind the scenes to get this course finished and released in early 2023! If you are interested in updates (and discounted pricing 🤑) feel free to get on my waitlist so you'll be the first to know when my course is released!

always be learning!
